Production Assistant work on the machines and production lines. If you can carry out tasks quickly and accurately, this job could be for you.

In this job you will need to have patience, as the tasks can be repetitive. You will also need to work well in a team and on your own.

It will be useful if you have experience of work in manufacturing.

The work

  • The manufacture of food products is manual and mechanized, so your work as an operative will include:
  • checking products for quality on the production line and removing defective items
  • keeping machines supplied with packaging materials and labels
  • reporting machine faults to shift supervisors and maintenance staff
  • making minor adjustments to machine settings to handle changes from one type of product to another.
  • You would keep the machines and production areas clean during the shift. Depending on your duties, you may also move packaged items around the warehouse using pallet trollies.HoursDesc


You would typically work 40 hours a week on a shift system, which can include evenings and weekends. Overtime is common during busy times. Factories are usually noisy and can be hot or cool, depending on the product being packed. You would wear protective clothing.IncomeDesc


£7.20/hour raising with experience

Entry requirements

You will not usually need any qualifications to start work as a production assistant. It will be useful if you have previous experience of work on a manufacturing production line.


Reporting To: Operations Manager

Nantwich Cheese are looking to recruit for an experienced stock controller to join our busy, dynamic operations team. The successful candidate will already have a proven track record in stock control having worked in a similar role within the food industry for a number of years. They will be confident with implementing robust stock control procedures and warehouse organisation as well as have the ability to run a warehouse team effectively. 

Due to the continued and rapid growth of the business, Nantwich Cheese have recently undergone phase one of its ERP Implementation, therefore the successful candidate will have vast experience in ERP System use as well as implementation, becoming a member of the implementation team and being able to contribute and add value to the project plan. 

This is a mangement role, and the sucessful candidate will take control of all warehouse activities including staff, reporting directly to the operations manager and senior management team.

Reporting To: Production Manager

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • To carry out production in an efficient manner according to the agreed schedules.
  • To delegate tasks to production operatives as appropriate.
  • To ensure that all customer specifications are achieved relating to product labelling.
  • To ensure, where relevant, all aspects of the company’s food safety (HACCP) and Quality Management systems are followed.
  • To ensure all records within the production environment are documented correctly and accurately.
  • To ensure all relevant procedures (on line quality checks) are followed correctly.
  • To inform management of any problems or concerns relating to the quality of the final product.
  • To liaise with the Production & Warehouse Manager on all aspects relating to the operation of the Quality Management System or the quality of the final product.
  • To ensure all areas under their supervision are kept neat and tidy during production.
  • To carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by management.
